Paging |
| In the WMU, we can select members to page based on their unit, their ES Qualification and their location in the State. We are also limited to about 25 members per paging request due to our server's anti-spam features. So when a member is qualified in more than one qualification that is needed, they may get more than one page. For example to pick on Chris, he is aircrew and UDF. So if we need both an aircrew and a UDF team, we may page once for the aircrew and once for the UDF team. He would get two pages from this. If we also need communications support and did a third page, he would also get one as a CUL. In addition, some of the members that initiate pages hit the page button more than once, since there is a delay in user feedback and it can appear that the first hit did not initiate any activity. This can generate two or more sets of the same pages. We also have been selecting the wing alert pager option, which for ORWG is CAPAlert. This also generate a page to that list. So anyone also on CAPAlert will get a page from that as well. So, if we stop using the WMU and only use CAPAlert, we can get down to a single page. The downside is that CAPAlert has been known to take some time between the page request and actually sending out the email to the list. This has been up to hours. This is a function of Internet email as there is no requirement that email be immediately passed. We do not yet have a solution that is free, timely and efficient. So what I need are concrete actionable suggestions since we all know that what we have now is not optimal.
For those wishing to subscribe to the or-capalert list, simply go to http://maillist.peak.org/mailman/listinfo/or-capalert and select subscribe.
